When a job is progressed but the next role is unassigned, it would be ideal if it can be defaulted to the pool.

When a job is progressed but the next role is unassigned, it would be ideal if it can be defaulted to the pool.
This is now possible, see the new workflow action 'Set job holder (if empty)'. This can be used on its own or alternatively create this workflow action after having created a normal 'Set job holder' workflow action (so it is read last). Then you can set to say Preparer on the normal workflow action, if there is no preparer and the job holder remains blank the second workflow action can then set to say Pool.
